What does “Lock your profile” do, and should I use it?

Locking your profile shows non-friends a limited view: only friends see your photos, posts, stories and full-size profile and cover pictures. It’s one switch instead of many — where Facebook offers it.

How to do it

Open your profile and look for “Lock profile”

On profiles where it’s available it’s under the More (•••) menu or profile menu.

Turn it on

Past posts shared to Public change to Friends, and profile review and tag review are turned on automatically.

If it isn’t available, use the pieces instead

Privacy Checkup, limit past posts, who can friend/follow you, and profile picture guard give the same protection.

What each option means

What non-friends can see — before vs after locking

Worth knowing

Lock profile “isn’t available everywhere … You can only lock your profile in certain countries.” If you don’t see it, nothing is wrong — use Privacy Checkup and the individual controls to get the same result.

Questions

Does locking hide me from friends too?

No. Friends see your profile as normal; locking only limits what non-friends can see.

Can I unlock later?

Yes — the same switch turns it off. Posts changed to Friends don’t revert to Public automatically.
